Free to Love, not Sin
Galatians 5 (nlt) — 1 So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law . . . 4 For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace. . . . 6 For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus . . . What is important is faith expressing itself in love. . . . 13 For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
Lord Jesus, you have truly set us free. By our faith in you the righteous requirement of the law has been fulfilled in our lives. Help us not turn back to relying on following religious rules again. If we go back to trying to make ourselves right by following a set of rules, then we are choosing to be cut off from your grace. Lord, help us to cling to your righteousness, not our own, and your righteousness comes to us by faith alone.
And may our true faith find its expression in love; love to you and love to others. We have been called to live in freedom from religious regulations, but not so that we can sin, God forbid. Instead, may we use our freedom in you Jesus to serve one another in love, as you have commanded us to. Amen.
