How Terrible to Question God
Isaiah 45:10–12 (NLT)
10 How terrible it would be if a newborn baby said to its father, ‘Why was I born?’ or if it said to its mother, ‘Why did you make me this way?’ ”
11 This is what the LORD says— the Holy One of Israel and your Creator: “Do you question what I do for my children? Do you give me orders about the work of my hands?
12 I am the one who made the earth and created people to live on it. With my hands I stretched out the heavens. All the stars are at my command.
Heavenly Father, how terrible it would be if I were to say, Why was I born this way, or born-again this way, or born here in this place. Or why did you make me this way, or why did you make me for this purpose, or for this time, or this place. You are the Holy One, you are the Creator. You do what you please, and what you do is good. How can I question what you do with your children? I’m not in charge. I’m not calling the shots, you are. I am the work of your hands. You are the one who made the earth and created each of us to live on it. With your hand you stretched out the heavens, and all the stars are at your command.
Lord, help me to never question your work, not around me, not in me, not through me. I am grateful to be the work of your hands, to be who you made me to be, to be in the place you made me to be in. Help me to see your hands on this clay. And help me to see when other forces are affecting me that are not your hands. Help me to see when my own hands, my own flesh, my own ideas, are at work. And help me to see when the world is trying to have a hand on me. I want to be the work of your hands alone. Help me surrender to the work you are doing in me and through me, and not get in the way. Thank you for making me, for molding and shaping me, and for using me how & where & when you see fit. Thank you for making me to serve you. For your Name’s Sake, amen.
