We Are Your Temple
Ephesians 2:20–21 (nlt) - Together, we are his house . . . And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.
Hebrews 3:6 (nlt) - But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house . . .
1 Peter 2:4–5 (nlt) - You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple . . . And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.
Lord God, you displayed your glory first in a tabernacle, then in a temple made with hands. But now Lord, we are your house. You exchanged a physical temple for a living temple, and that living temple is us. You have carefully joined each of us so that now we, together, make up your holy temple.
The temple that you required such holiness and purification in is now us. And Jesus is the High Priest over us, as your temple, He is the living cornerstone of your living temple, and we are the living stones of that temple. And even more, you have made us your holy priests. Through Jesus Christ, we are charged with offering spiritual sacrifices that please you.
Lord, that is who we are as the Church. That is who you have called us to be in our church. You have carefully joined us together to be your living holy temple. And your word says all of us joined together are your body, and each of us is a part of it. And what one part does affects the entire body.
Heavenly Father, forgive us for ignoring the awesomeness of this incredible truth. Forgive us for ignoring our holy calling. Forgive us for not grasping that we together are your living holy temple, and what each of us does affects the entire body. Forgive us Lord, for the choices we’ve made that have affected your holy temple. Cleanse us Lord, purify us. Make each of us ready in your sight to be your living holy temple. Purify us to be your holy priests. Through our High Priest Jesus Christ may we, together, offer spiritual sacrifices that please you.
Lord Jesus, may you continue to set us apart for your holy use. For your sake, and in your name, amen.
